Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 October 2026
This policy covers the PortL Android app (com.portl.link) and the
website portl.click. In short: PortL only uses what it needs to connect your console to
your servers. We don't sell your information, and you don't need an account to use the app.
Information that stays on your phone
- Your saved servers (name, address, port, favourite) and the last status and message each server sent. These are stored in the app on your phone.
- App settings, such as your language and texture pack.
- Your saved servers may be included in your phone's own Android backup to your Google account, if you have that turned on in Android settings. That backup is run by Google, not PortL.
Connecting to servers and your console
- To show if a server is online, the app sends a small status check straight to the servers you add. Like any internet connection, that server can see your IP address.
- When you press Play, your phone hosts a LAN game on your home Wi-Fi. When your console joins, it sends its normal Minecraft login (which includes your gamertag) to your phone. PortL only uses it on your phone to send your console on to the server. It is not saved or sent anywhere.
- The app downloads a small file from portl.click (
version.json) to check the latest supported Minecraft version. No personal information is sent with it.
Google sign-in and sync (optional)
If you choose to sign in with Google (in the app's Settings or on portl.click), we use Google Firebase to:
- sign you in. Firebase receives your Google account ID, email address, and your name and profile picture from Google;
- store your saved server list (name, address, port, favourite, and when it was changed), so it syncs between your phones and the website. Only you can see it.
On portl.click, signed-in users can also:
- List a server: the name, address, port, description and tags you enter. Public servers can be seen by anyone on Discover. Private servers can be seen by anyone with the link. Your email is never shown on a server page.
- Like, favourite or report a server. These are linked to your account so each account can only do them once. Only you can see your favourites. Reports are only seen by the PortL team.
If a server you listed gets several reports, it is made private automatically and we may email you about it (sent through the email service Resend).
When you tap "Open in PortL" on a server page, the website counts it once per browser. To do this, it uses an anonymous Firebase sign-in that doesn't include your name or email.
Ads
Unless you buy Remove Ads, the app shows ads from Google AdMob. Ads are limited to content suitable for all ages. AdMob may collect your device's advertising ID, IP address and information about how you use ads, to show and measure ads. Where the law requires it (for example in the UK and EU), the app asks for your consent first. You can change your choice at any time in Settings > Privacy & ad choices. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Purchases, reviews and installs
- Remove Ads is bought through Google Play. We never see your payment details. Google tells the app whether you own it.
- The app may ask you to rate it using Google Play's in-app review. We don't see who left a review through this.
- If you installed PortL from a shared server link, the app reads the Google Play install referrer once, to add that server for you.
Camera and other permissions
- Camera: only used when you tap Scan QR. Images stay on your phone.
- Wi-Fi and network: to host the LAN game and check servers.
- Notifications: to show that PortL is hosting, with a Stop button.
- Storage (Android 9 and older only): to save QR code images to your photos.
The website
portl.click is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may log visitors' IP addresses for security. The site remembers a few things in your browser only (recently viewed servers, your sort order and sky style). We don't use analytics or tracking cookies on the website.
Who we share information with
Only the services listed above, to make PortL work: Google (Firebase, AdMob, Google Play), GitHub and Resend. We don't sell your information or share it with anyone else, unless the law requires us to.
How long we keep it
Information on your phone is deleted when you uninstall PortL or clear its data. Synced servers, listed servers, likes, favourites and your sign-in stay until you delete them or ask us to delete your account. Reports are kept for moderation.
Deleting your information
- Delete servers in the app or on My Servers. Deletions sync to your other devices.
- To delete your whole account and everything linked to it, go to portl.click/delete-account. It's deleted straight away. If you can't sign in, email us from the address you signed in with (see Contact) and we will delete it within 30 days.
Children
PortL is made to be friendly for all ages, and ads are limited to content suitable for everyone. Signing in is optional and needs a Google account, which follows Google's own age rules. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 beyond what's described here. If you think a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the UK or EU GDPR), you can ask for a copy of your information, or ask us to correct or delete it. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO). Contact us to make a request.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
